Manchester United and Shanghai Shenhua failed to reach new loan agreement over Odion Ighalo at Old Trafford as the striker current loan expired on June 1.
According to Sportsmail, Ighalo’s loan fee was a problem for United, which could have been one of the challenges as to why they failed to reach an agreement for his extension.
Now the 30-year-old is poised to return to the Asian country following the conclusion of his loan as United were unable to announce an extension before his current loan agreement expired on Sunday night.
Ighalo joined United on a four-month temporary deal in January after Erling Haaland had snubbed a move to Manchester in favour of a Borussia Dortmund switch.
Another option for United is to buy the striker who is valued at around £15-20m by the Chinese side.
The former super eagle striker, scored four goals for Manchester United in eight games to shun critics who earlier claimed he was not the right man for the club.
