Kanye West a father of four has donated $2 million to support the grieving families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbrery, and Breonna Taylor.
West also set up a college savings fund to cover tuition for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, Gianna Floyd.
West’s representative said he established a 529 education plan to fully cover college tuition for Gianna Floyd, the 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd.
The donations come after critics on Twitter questioned the rapper for remaining silent over the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of George Floyd’s killing and the deaths of other African-Americans.
He added that Kanye has also offered to cover the legal fees for the families of Arbery and Taylor who was fatally shot while on a jog in February, and Taylor, who was killed in her home by police in March.
George died on May 25 after police officer Derek Chauvin pinned Floyd to the ground using his knee on Floyd’s neck during his arrest. This led to Black Lives Matter movement and protests demanding an end to police brutality and justice for George Floyd and the deaths of other African-Americans.
The white police officer, Derek Chauvin, who was seen in the viral video with his knee on Floyd’s neck, was earlier charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter which protesters complained were not harsh enough for the crime.
The three other ex-officers involved in the killing, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng were also charged with aiding and abetting second degree murder.
