The Former White-house number one citizen, Barack Obama, in 30-minute conversation with his former staffs, described Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic as “an absolute chaotic disaster”.
The blistering assessment came on a call intended to encourage over 3,000 members of the Obama Alumni Association to engage with former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
The contents of the call were first reported by Yahoo News. A source familiar with the call confirmed them to Reuters.
Obama said in the 30-minute recording. “And by the way, we’re seeing that internationally as well. It’s part of the reason why the response to this global crisis has been so anemic and spotty.”
During the call, Obama also lashed out at the Justice Department for dropping the charges against former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy — that has become a stronger impulse in American life.
“This election that’s coming up — on every level — is so important because what we’re going to be battling is not just a particular individual or a political party.
The former president admitted the outbreak would have been bad under any circumstances, but he said with Trump in the White House the situation has spiraled.
