Prof Isa Hashim, the Jarman Kano died at the age of 86 on Sunday morning after a brief illness.
Mr Hashim’s death is the latest among increasing deaths of the elderly in Kano.
The late elder statesman and community leader was appointed as Jarman Kano by the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero following the death of the former Jarman Kano and Chairman of Kabo Air, late Alhaji Adamu Dankabo.
Hashim, a Professor of Political Science, was a senior lecturer with Bayero University Kano (BUK) where he taught for many years before his retirement.
Details of his ailment were not immediately available but a family member said Mr Hashim’s health deteriorated following the deaths of some of his childhood friends in quick succession.
Prof Isa Hashim enrolled into the then Kano Native Authority in 1948 as a first school leaver and rose to the position of a permanent secretary before he retired in 1979.
Prayers for the remains of the late senior counsellor in Kano Emirate Council, took place at the Emir’s palace by 11am today, May 3.
