Celtic crowned Scottish Premiership champions after league cancellation

Celtic Football Club has been crowned Scottish Premiership champions for the ninth season in a row, with 13 points ahead of their strongest rival, Rangers.

Heart of Midlothian Football Club have been relegated from the top-flight league after playing 30 matches with 23 points  behnd hamilton with 27 points .

The decision was taken at a board meeting on Monday, May 18, after the 12 clubs agreed at the end of last week that completing the campaign was unfeasible.

The 2019/20 season was decide base on average points per game played.


Dundee United will replace Hearts, who were five points adrift of safety when the shutdown began, have been relegated, while Rangers and Motherwell, who finish second and third, take Europa League places.

The chairman of the SPFL, Murdoch MacLennan, said: “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to officially congratulate Celtic on their achievement of winning the Ladbrokes Premiership this season, and also to sincerely commiserate with Hearts on their relegation.
