President Muhammadu Buhari has appoint his former minster for foreign affair when he was the military head of state,Prof. Agboola Ibrahim Gambari as his new chief of staff.
Prof. Gambari, a Nigerian scholar, diploma and indigene of Kwara State, was appointed to replace the late Abba Kyari who died after testing positive to CoronaVirus.
The new chief of staff was former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Department of Political Affairs
Gambari is currently the Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other Issues for the Secretary-General of the United Nations
He became the chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur effective in January 2010.
March 4, 2013, Ibrahim Gambari was also appointed the pioneer Chancellor of the Kwara State University, the ceremonial head that presides over convictions to award degrees and also supports the vision of the institution.
Prof Agboola Gambari, was Buhari’s Foreign Minister and confidant as military Head of State in the 1980s. He played a key role in quelling the diplomatic uproar generated by the failed attempt to remove Mallam Umaru Dikko from UK during Buhari military era
