The love for child marriage in northern Nigeria have taken another dimension as teen Girl stabbed her husband to death in Bauchi State.
The incident happened in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
According to Facebook user, Datti Assalafiy, who shared photos of the deceased and the suspect on Saturday April 25 said,the reason for the alleged murder is yet unknown
Child marriage is most common in the Northern Nigeria, where 68% and 57% of women aged 20-49 were married before 18years. Child marriage is particularly common among Nigeria’s poorest and the rich, rural households and the Hausa ethnic group.
Nigerian girls have been told they belong to the kitchen and ‘the other room.’ Girls as young as 10 years have been pulled out of school, and introduced to men – often double their age, as their husband.
According to UNICEF report , Nigeria has the third highest absolute number of child brides in the world – 3,538,000 – and the 11th highest prevalence rate of child marriage globally.
