Police arrest estate Chairman James Olu allegedly kills promising footballer Benson Legbe on vigilante duty in Lagos

Lagos state Police command has confirmed the arrest of James Olu, the Chairman of the Victory Estate, Iba, Lagos State, after he allegedly shot dead a young footballer who was returning home from vigilante duty

According to reports, James and Stephen allegedly had a fight days earlier and it repeated itself again on Saturday when the chairman later pulled out a gun and shot the footballer in the chest.

Residents claimed Mr James Olu, an ex-naval officer and also the Chairman of the Landlord’s Association at Victory Estate, Iba, Lagos State, has threatened multiple times to kill Stephen as both men were never in good terms.

The chairman fled with the victim on a motorcycle, but was later arrested by policemen from the Adoff Police Station.

On Saturday, as Stephen was returning home after joining the youths in his area to guard the neighbourhood against the One Million Boys robbery gang, Mr James, who also did vigilante the night before, met him and they had an altercation. It allegedly ended with Mr James shooting Stephen.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed his arrest and investigation of the incident.
