Federal Government has announced the postponement of the National Sports Festival, Edo 2020. Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare disclosed this in a series of posts on Tuesday on his Twitter page.
Sunday Dare tweeted: “Following the briefing of Mr. President from myself and the Minister of State for Health on COVID 19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports festival to a future date.
This comes after the country confirmed a third case of COVID-19 on Tuesday in a 30-year-old Nigerian lady who arrived from the UK, four days ago.
“President Mohammadu Buhari approves the postponement of the National Sports Festival Edo 2020 as a precautionary move against COVID-19 spread.”
However, House of Representatives has called on the Federal government to ban all large gatherings in Nigeria to prevent the spread of deadly disease.
The resolution followed a motion of matters of urgent public importance moved by Luke Onofiok on Tuesday.
Reacting to the motion, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila said that to do otherwise would be “irresponsible”
