The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson,55 and his 31-year-old girlfriend Carrie Symonds have announced they are expecting a baby and that they have got engaged.
Boris Johnson will become the first prime minister in UK to marry while in office for more than 250 years. Ms Symonds is also the youngest partner of a prime minister in 174 years.
It will be a third marriage for Mr Johnson – who divorced his first wife and is now estranged from second wife Marina Wheeler.
Ms Wheeler and Mr Johnson, who have four children, separated in 2018 after marrying in 1993.
The couple who reportedly got engaged at the end of last year,confirmed they are expecting a baby via her private Instagram account, Carrie Symonds wrote:
“I wouldn’t normally post this kind of thing on here, but I wanted my friends to find out from me.
“Many of you already know but for my friends that still don’t, we got engaged at the end of last year… and we’ve got a baby hatching early summer. Feel incredibly blessed.”
Symonds who has also enjoyed a successful political career, is the youngest partner of a prime minister in 174 years. She worked as part of the campaign team that helped to get Johnson re-elected as mayor of London in 2012.
Mr Boris Johnson already has four grown-up children with his second wife Marina Wheeler; the pair married 25 years ago but are now separated.
The last time a child was born to a sitting UK prime minister was in 2010, when David Cameron and his wife Samantha Cameron, welcomed their daughter Florence.
Former Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson,was one of the first to congratulate the couple on social media.
