NBA renames All-Star MVP award to honor Kobe Bryant
.The MVP award for the NBA All-Star Game has been officially renamed to The Kobe Bryant MVP Award.
Bryant’s died in a helicopter crash on January, 26 sent the NBA and the basketball world into a very public and fast-paced grieving process.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced on Saturday unveiled the newly-minted trophy at his annual All-Star weekend news conference in Chicago.
“Kobe Bryant is synonymous with NBA All-Star and encapsulates the soul of this worldwide festival of our game,” Silver said. “He generally savored the chance to contend with the most elite and perform at the most significant level for many fans far and wide.”
Bryant made 18 consecutive All-Star Games from 1998 to 2016, and won the game’s MVP four times – in 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011 respectively.
The Kobe Bryant MVP Award will be exhibited on Sunday toward the end of the 2020 All-Star Game in Chicago. The teams will be captained by LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Group Giannis will wear No. 24 and Team LeBron will wear No. 2, the particular shirt numbers worn by Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.
