INEC declares PDP’s Duoye Diri winner of Bayelsa state governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Duoye Diri as the winner of the Bayelsa election.

Barely 24 hours after Supreme court annulled the election of APC’s David Lyon on grounds that his running mate ran in the Novevember 2019 governorship election with forged certificate.

Addressing the media at its headquarters in Abuja, chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said by the virtue of the Supreme Court’s judgment which disqualified APC candidates from the election, the total number of vote cast now stands at 146,999 and the candidate of the PDP scored 143,172 with geographical spread.

Yakubu, said the commission would give him the Certificate of Return in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, which sacked David Lyon 24 hours to his inauguration.
