Bayern Munich beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in play that place the blue within touching distance of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Blues are now on course to record their worst home season for 34 years. As Serge Gnabry scored twice in quick succession after half-time, before Alphonso Davies seared down the left to set up Robert Lewandowski to make it Chelsea’s worst-ever home defeat in Europe.
The defeat was Chelsea’s eighth at home this season in all competitions, the highest such figure the Blues have recorded since the 1985-86 campaign.
Chelsea had miserable night as Marcos Alonso sent off late on following a VAR review after clashing with Lewandowski.
Bayern boasted 63 per cent of ball possession, dominating play. Chelsea’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread now required to win by a margin of four goals or force a 3-3 draw.
All the goals came in the second half, as Gnabry’s brace was followed by a Robert Lewandowski finish for his 11th Champions League goal this season.
