Anthony Joshua beats Andy Ruiz Jr by unanimous decision to reclaim heavyweight boxing titles
The british born boxer, Anthony Joshua beats Andy Ruiz Jr by unanimous decision to reclaim the WBA Super, IBF, WBO, IBO world heavyweight titles.
Joshua won a unanimous verdict, with two judges giving the fight to the Briton 119-110 and the other 119-109, to take back the WBA, WBO and IBF belts.
The Brit’s employed a hit-and-move strategy to outpoint the Mexican-American, but his tactics didn’t go down well with casual boxing fans who slammed him .”Joshua ran a marathon all fight.
Ruiz knocked down Joshua four times on the way to a seventh-round upset win in New York in June but there was none of the drama in the rematch at Diriyah Arena as Joshua controlled the fight with his movement and better timing of his punches.
Joshua looked slick and fast as he stuck to his brilliant game plan. He rocked Ruiz Jr with a massive right hand at the end of the first round that cut Ruiz Jr above his left eye.
After the match, Andy Ruiz Jr said: “It was his night.
“I didn’t prepare like I should have, I put on too much weight but I won’t make excuses.
“I want that third fight and I’ll be ready for that.
“Joshua did a hell of a job and thanks for everyone who was here and supporting.”
Anthony Joshua told press: “I want to thank God.
“I want to say that the first time was so nice, I just had to do it twice.
“A man like me don’t make no excuses. This is about boxing. I’m use to knocking guys out but I had to correct myself and put on a boxing masterclass. You have to hit and not get hit.
“I stay hungry and humble. Thank you to everyone, I don’t know what to say. So to everyone around the world and in this building – let’s go!
“Careers are all about experiences, I took my ‘L’ and hit back. I’d do it all again, if you are heard, we going to do a third.”
One social media user wrote.”Joshua ran a marathon all fight. I respect the strategy but it’s extremely boring to watch. Tap and run all night. No real punches. Whatever gets you the W though,”
Another added: “What a boring fight, Joshua running and holding Ruiz all rounds. Ruiz robbed and Joshua is a heavy weight fraud.”
A brilliant performance from AJ and now 2020 will be huge for him. Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, who will be next?
