Prince William & Kate Middleton Praise ‘Courageous’ Rugby Legend After He Reveals He’s Living with HIV

The Royal family,Duke and Duchess of Cambridge,Prince William and Kate Middleton, many other public figures have shown their support to Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas after he disclose his HIV positive status to the world .

Gareth Thomas reveal that he has been living with HIV on Sunday Taking to official Kensington Palace Instagram account.

Thomas, who came out as gay in 2009 and married husband Stephen in 2016, opened up about his decision to reveal his HIV status in a new documentary for BBC One Wales.

The former captain of the British and Irish Lions, Gareth – explained that he hoped to educate the public and end the stigma surrounding HIV. He also called on his fans for support, and revealed he would be competing in the Ironman triathlon in Wales on Sunday.

 

He said: “I’ve been threatened by people who said they would give away my secret. It’s sick and I’ve been through hell.

“I was being blackmailed and in my mind, I thought you only get blackmailed for something really bad, which compounded the feeling of shame.

Gareth had spoken for the first time about his diagnosis on Sunday in an interview.He admitted that after finding out he had HIV, he wanted to take his own life

In a video share on Kensington Palace Instagram page, Gareth said, “Hello, I’m Gareth Thomas, and I want to share my secret with you. Why? Because it’s mine to tell you. Not the evils that make my life hell, threatening to tell you before I do. And because I believe in you, and I trust you. I am living with HIV.”

The Duke of Cambridge, who is the patron of Welsh Rugby Union, tweeted: “Courageous as ever – legend on the pitch and legend off it. You have our support Gareth W.”

Prince Harry also shared words of support on social media. “Gareth, you are an absolute legend! In sharing your story of being HIV+, you are saving lives and shattering stigma, by showing you can be strong and resilient while living with HIV,” he wrote on the Sussex Royal account.
