Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday scored four goals as Portugal defeated Lithuania 5-1 in Euro 2020 qualifying tie as he completes his hat trick — his 8th for Portugal and 54th of his career!
After draws in their opening two matches against Ukraine and Serbia, Portugal have been left to play catch-up due to their Nations League commitments, and fresh from winning the inaugural title they overcame Serbia 4-2 on Saturday.
The victory keeps Portugal in an automatic qualifying place, five points behind Group B leaders Ukraine. It was an eighth international hat-trick for 34-year-old Ronaldo, who also scored four against in Andorra in 2016
Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 93 international goals, 16 behind Iran legend Ali Daei’s world record.
Three of the goals came during a 15-minute flurry in the second half. Ronaldo converted a penalty for his opener in the seventh minute, but Lithuania’s Vytautas Andriuškevičius knotted the score at 1-1 in the 28th minute.
Ronaldo scores his second goal in the 61st minute, his third came in the 65th minute, while his fourth goal was scored in the 76th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo is already a legend of the game both at the club level and for his national team. He’s already the top active international goal scorer, but now Ronaldo is just 16 goals behind the all-time men’s international record of 109 set by Iraq’s Ali Daei.
