The R&B singer, R. Kelly has reportedly been left with negative $13 account balance after his former Chicago landlord filed a lawsuit accusing him of owning back rent.
This is all coming after the singer was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse back in February. He faces a maximum of up to 70 years behind bars if convicted.
It was discovered that R Kelly now has on $13 dollars left as reported by Wintrust Bank when the landlord tried to recoup the nearly $20,000 still owed him.Though that bank account has been drained, Kelly is said to have two other bank accounts with Bank of America. One of those accounts held $44,595.58 and the other had $110,056.64.
The landlord was awarded $173,000 from the suit and subpoenas were sent to Sony Music, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and multiple banks.
According to the report, Kelly’s former landlord is asking Sony, Kelly’s recording label, to settle the debt. Lawyers representing the landlord are also said to have asked the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publisher to relinquish funds earmarked for Kelly, but the songwriters organization claims they don’t owe him anything.
