Eden Hazard doubled Chelsea’s lead on 90 minutes with a clinical 16th goal of the season, giving Chelsea a third successive victory on Premier League table, following a 2-0 win over West Ham on Monday to take them above Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal on 66 points.
Hazard decided the London Derby, with a dazzling solo goal in the first half, before adding a late second. He has proved to the saviour in that particular match and he did again against West Ham, taking his tally to 16 goals in the Premier League.
The victory eases the pressure on manager Maurizio Sarri, who knows he must take Chelsea into next year’s Champions League to keep his job, and also emphasises just how important Hazard is to the clubs’ ambitions.
With trips to Liverpool and Manchester United to come in Chelsea’s last five league games, much will depend on Hazard with Gonzalo Higuain showing little sign of hitting form.
All the talk before the match was about whether Chelsea’s winger Eden Hazard would even be selected after reports he had already agreed a £100m move to Real Madrid at the end of the season. As the Blue run the risk of losing their top scorer on a free transfer in 2020.
