A 6-year-old Georgia girl identified as Millie Drew Kelly, was accidentally shot in the head by her 4-year-old brother outside their home, authorities said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson says the family was in the car about to leave home preparing to go to the boy’s baseball game, when the car wouldn’t start. He says the mother got out to see what was wrong and somehow, the little boy found the handgun and it accidentally discharged.
She was taken to an Atlanta-area hospital and two days later, detectives learned the girl had died, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.
“It’s just a really sad situation,” sheriff’s Sgt. Ashley Henson said Saturday morning. “Just based on all the evidence and the entire situation, we felt like charges were not warranted in this particular case.”
No charges will be filed in the case. Henson says detectives believe the gun was retrieved from the car’s centre console.
