UEFA charges Neymar after blasting referee for Manchester United VAR penalty

Paris St-Germain (PSG) forward, Neymar has been charged by European football governing body UEFA for “insulting referee, during PSG’s loss to Manchester United in the Champions League round of sixteen.

Neymar, who was sidelined by injury, was investigated for lashing out and labelling the video assistant referee (VAR) system a “disgrace”.

The Brazilian star wrote in an Instagram post: ‘This is shameful! And they still let four guys that do not understand football look at the slow motion video, this doesn’t happen! How is he going to take his hand out when he’s on his back! Oh go f*** yourself.’

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg match between PSG and Manchester United FC (1-3), played on March 6 in France,” UEFA said in a statement.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will look into the case and a date for the hearing is yet to be confirmed.

If Neymar is found guilty, he could be suspended for three matches in the competition for insulting match officials. Art. 15 (1) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.”
