Gianni Infantino, will now only need to pass the formalities of a Fifa eligibility and integrity check before being crowned again as FIFA president for four more years.
The 48-year-old Swiss lawyer has been widely expected to win unopposed with support already pledged by most FIFA members.
It was also revealed that most FIFA members had already pledged their support for the incumbent who was first elected in February 2016.
The football governing body, revealed that only the 48-year-old Swiss lawyer Infantino had the required nomination letters from five of the 211 member federations when the deadline passed at midnight on Tuesday in Zurich, Switzerland.
Since being elected in February 2016, after Sepp Blatter was banned from the governing body for making a “disloyal payment” of £1.3 million Swiss Francs in 2011 to then Uefa president Michel Platini., Infantino has overseen the plans to expand the World Cup to 48 teams in 2026, and picking the United States, Canada and Mexico to host it.
