Bill Cosby sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison for sexual assault

The “America’s Dad,” Bill Cosby, was sentenced by Judge Steven O’Neill to three to 10 years in prison by a judge on Tuesday.

O’Neil branded Cosby,a “sexually violent predator” for assaulting a woman at his Philadelphia mansion 14 years ago meaning he must undergo counselling for life and be listed on the sex offender registry.

The 81-year-old, disgraced US television icon Cosby’s request for bail pending appeal was denied. He was also fined $25,000 plus the prosecution costs.

After the sentencing, he was led away in handcuffs from the courtroom. He was then driven to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Cosby’s attorney had asked for his sentence to be restricted to house arrest, saying he was too frail for prison until they file an appeal.

Dozens of women have made similar accusations against Cosby stretching back to the 1960s, although only Constand has accused him of a crime that allegedly took place recently enough to allow for prosecution.

Constand had alleged that Cosby gave her pills and sexually assaulted her as she drifted in and out of consciousness.

“Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy young spirit and crushed it. “He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself and others,” she had written in a five-page victim impact statement.
