Lagos State APC governorship aspirant, Femi Hamzat has stepped down for anointed candidate of the APC national leader,Sanwo-Olu represents the Mandate Group ahead of tomorrows governorship primary.
Hamzat was the candidate of the Justice Forum while Sanwo-Olu is also believed to have the backing of a grassroots structure of the party, Mandate Group, led by Tinubu.
Hamzat stepped down at a press conference this morning after a visit to the Ikoyi, Lagos residence of Sanwo-Olu.
While announcing his decision to step down, Hamzat also enjoined all his supporters to work for Sanwo-Olu, saying the decision is in the collective interest of the party.
Sanwo-Olu was on Friday, September 29, endorsed by the Iyaloja-General of Lagos state, Chief Mrs Folashade Tinubu- Ojo and other market leaders in state.
Also, chairmen of 52 out 57 local councils in the state have endorsed Sanwo-Olu to be the party’s governorship flag bearer going into next year’s elections. The three in exclusion are the chairmen of Epe division of the state where governor Ambode hails from.
The Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode will be slugging it out with Sanwo-Olu at the primaries.
Some of Ambode’s alleged “sins” includes sidelining party elders and the advisory council in policies and affairs of the state since his emergence as governor in 2015.
Ambode was asked to step down to avoid the humiliation of a seating governor losing his party’s ticket. A move which the Governor has shunned to declare his readiness to contest his return ticket for next year’s election.
