U.S First lady Melania Trump’s Policy director, Reagan Hedlund resigns
Reagan Hedlund, who came to Trump’s office from the Office of the Auditor General, where she was an executive assistant later employed by as top aide to U.S. First Lady Melania Trump has reportedly resigned her position in the White House.
According to reports, she served as political and communications adviser to Mike Pompeo when he was a Republican member of the Kansas State House, before his roles as CIA director and state secretary.
Hedlund joined the first lady’s staff in January as policy director, abruptly departed from her the role to work on foreign policy issues.
The 28-year old Reagan Hedlund said,”I am very grateful to the first lady for the opportunity to help start her political initiative,” said Hedlund to Politico. “It was a rare opportunity to contribute to such a high level. It was a difficult decision to leave, but I have decided to return to my roots in the foreign policy world.”she told Politico.
“She is no longer with our office and we wish her our best,” Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, also confirmed in a statement. Hedlund had previously worked under Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when he was a Republican lawmaker in Congress. She’s also worked as an executive assistant at the National Security Council.
Hedlund’s departure makes Trump’s already small team even smoother. With about 10 full-time employees who handle everything from daily operation to communication, Trumps East Wing Office is less than half of Michelle Obamas when she left the White House. Obama had about 25 people on his staff, like her predecessor Laura Bush.
