The wife of President of the United States Melania Trump, is expected to embark on her first visit to Africa in October.
It’s not clear which countries Trump will visit in the scheduled October trip first reported by the Associated Press, but she will do so without President Trump.
The First Lady noted that the visit would afford her the opportunity to learn about Africa’s rich culture and history.
Trump in a statement revealed that she will be traveling to the continent to educate herself on issues facing children while working on some humanitarian activities and help in the “development programmes being done in many of the countries”.
President Trump was met with significant criticism earlier this year when he referred to African nations as “shithole countries.”
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump reportedly said during the January meeting with lawmakers in Oval Office.
Melania Trump indicated a gentler approach, saying “we are a global society and I believe it is through open dialogue and the exchanging of ideas that we have a real opportunity to learn from one another.”
