The party’s national leader, Bola Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo where both present at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting .
The national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, also led the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to the APC secretariat in Abuja.
The NEC meeting was also attended by governors, Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, Secretary to the Government the Federation, Boss Mustapha, ex-governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom amongst others.
Apologies were read on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dorara, and Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, who were absent at the meeting
One of the key decisions expected to be taken at the meeting is whether to adopt direct or indirect methods for the party’s primary elections for the upcoming 2019 general elections.
While the party employed the indirect delegate system for the 2019 general elections, the direct method allows all registered party members to vote and has already been adopted for the Osun Governorship primary election.
At the end of the meeting, the APC NEC adopted direct primary to select its presidential candidate.
The party, however, declined to adopt direct primaries for other positions.
