President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State have expressed sadness over the death of a former Inspector General of Police (IG) and Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie.

”Nigeria will never forget the excellent leadership the late Coomassie gave to the Nigeria Police Force during the many years he served as IG.” Buhari said.
The younger brother of the deceased Dahiru Commassie, who confirmed the new thursday in Katsina, said the former IG died thursday evening at the age of 76 years.
Coomassie, who held the traditional title of Sardaunan-Katsina, was rushed to the Orthopedic Hospital in Katsina around 11a.m. yesterday morning for an undisclosed ailment but regained his consciousness after an hour and gave up around 5p.m.
The corpse of the former boss chief was said to have been brought to his residence from the hospital where he died.
The deceased was survived with one wife, six children and many grandchildren.
Masari lamented that the death of the former IG was a loss to Nigeria.
Late Commassie, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Inspector on May 11, 1964 and was appointed the 9th Indigenous Inspector General of Police on 26 August, 1993 to 1999.
He was the longest serving Inspector General of Police. Before his death, Coomassie was the Sardauna Katsina of Emir of Katsina and Garkuwan Hausa of Emir of Daura.
President Buhari said his thoughts were with late Ibrahim Coomassie’s family and those mourning the demise of the late community leader and fine gentleman.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I pray to Allah to receive his soul and grant the family he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, confirming the death also said ‘the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, on behalf of the Police Management Team and the entire Officers and Men of the Force, with a heavy heart regret to announce the demise of IGP (rtd) Alh. Ibrahim Ahmadu Commassie, Sardaunan Katsina, Garkuwan Hausa. “The IGP commiserate with his family, the good people and Government of Katsina State and our dear Nation, Nigeria on this great loss. May his soul rest in peace”..
