Chelsea,Manchester United enter race to sign Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara

Manchester United and Chelsea have made enquiries to Bayern Munich regarding Thiago Alcantara.

The Bundesliga champions are believed to be open to letting the 27-year-old leave the club for the right price as new manager, Niko Kovac aims to trim his squad ahead of his first season in charge.

Thiago was close to a move to Old Trafford in 2013 from Barcelona but Pep Guardiola, then at Bayern, held the player for the German giants.

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic previously said that Bayern plan on keeping the Spain international, but interest from the Premier League is proving strong.

With nine senior midfielders on their books, the German champions are keen to sell a couple of players in that position.

Barcelona reportedly made a move for their former player last month, but Sport Bild said that Bayern asked for €70 million.

Bayern, who have nine midfielders in their senior squad, are set to sanction the sale of one or two players in that position ahead of their transfer window closing on Aug. 31. But for Manchester United and Chelsea, they only have until Aug. 9 to sign players following Premier League clubs’ agreement to shorten the transfer window.

Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso, Leon Goretzka, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller, Renato Sanches and Thiago are currently on their books.

Premier League giants, Chelsea and Manchester United have both spoken to Bayern Munich about the availability of Spain midfielder, Thiago.
