Prison officer, motorcyclist killed as Unknown Gunmen Attack Minna Prison

Obscure shooters Sunday night assaulted the Minna Medium Security Prison in the Niger State capital liberating no less than 20 detainees.

The Niger Command of the Nigeria Prisons Service has affirmed the demise of its officer and a motorcyclist in the Sunday escape at the Minna Medium Security Prison.

The Nigerian Prisons through its Spokesperson, Rabiu Shuaibuhas said On Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 8:00p.m., there was an escape at Minna Medium Security Prison situated at Tunga territory of Minna city.

It was learnt that they came in their numbers in a pick-up van with army colours and shot sporadically into the air while other gunmen scaled the fence to set the inmates free.
The incident occurred at about 9.00pm when it was threatening to rain.

“The unfortunate incident was executed by armed criminals who attacked the prison and gained access after exchange of gunfire with armed prison men.

“The incident led to the death of a prison officer and a motorcyclist, who conveyed a prison officer on night duty,’’ Shuaibu said.

He said that efforts of security agencies in the state led to re-arrest of seven prisoners. According to the spokesman, the re-arrested prisoners have been returned to the prison.

“We will get a kick out of the chance to ask all well behaved residents to help security offices in keeping up lawfulness, as security is an aggregate obligation. “We additionally encourage nationals to report any suspicious people or gathering,” he said.

It was gathered that the gunmen, who caught the prison officials unawares, took away several of the prisoners in the pick-up van they came with.
