Court orders Police to return Dino Melaye to National hospital Abuja

Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah has granted an interim order for Senator Dino Melaye, to be transferred to the National Hospital Abuja.

State High Court chief Judge who gave the order Friday following a motion for bail application filled by Dino’s Counsel, Mike Ozoikeme seeking the bail of the Senator who is standing trail for criminal Conspiracy, Gun running among other charges brought against him.

The Interim order the Chief Judge granted is to enable the senator receive medical attention, following the lack of facilities at the Police Clinic Lokoja where he is been held in police custody.

Ozoikeme in his application for bail has prayed the court for a speedy trial of the matter, said because of the critical health condition of his client, he (Melaye) should be transfered to the National Hospital, Abuja for proper medical care, before the next Adjoined date.

He said,only the living stands trial, urged the prosecution counsel to heed to the request to save the life of his client.

He described the case as one that present an interesting scenario, ordered the Commissioner of police be served through his counsel in court, while the Senator be taken to National Hospital Abuja, under the custody of the Police.

The trial judge also adjourned till Monday, 7th, May for continuation of hearing in a written bail application filed by Melaye’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, asking for a variation of the remand order placed on him.

In an interview after the order, Ozekhome said that the judge was convinced beyond all reasonable doubts that the Police Clinic facilities in Lokoja could not meet the medical needs of Senator Dino Melaye.

He also recognised the fact that as a senator of the Federal Republic, Dino cannot abandon his legislative duties and jump bail.
