Declaring a public holiday because Buhari is coming to Lagos indicate govt setting back human capital

Despite the presence of huge mineral and human resources found in Nigeria, the country is ranks third among countries having extremely poor people, World Bank says this fact is base on poor government policy but the ‘execution priorities’ don’t fully reflect people’s needs.

Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth, with the fourth worst maternal mortality rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. One in three Nigerian children is chronically malnourished.

The current plan is inadequate. Nigeria has all these young people and the current quality and quantity of investment in these young generations; in health and education just isn’t good enough, the country has failed to invest on human capital advancement

Growth is increase in size without scientific and technological advancement.Development means growth integrated with economic, scientific, political and home based technological expansion.

Bill gates said during his last visit to Nigeria,The Nigeria government’s Economic and Recovery Growth Plan identifies ‘investing in our people’ as one of the three ‘strategic objectives’ but the ‘execution priorities’ don’t fully reflect people’s needs.

To show how Nigeria has sunk governement, the APC Lagos Governor declared Thursday public holiday to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhar’s visit to Lagos. Lagos has an annual GDP of $100 billion. By shutting the state down, Lagos loses $250 million. Do you see why Nigeria economy collapsed?

By declaring a holiday and preventing businesses from opening for work, the government is setting back human capital because of the physical capital of opening a bus stop. This is a pure example of why @BillGates said Nigeria prioritizes physical capital over human capital.

It’s hard to understand the logic behind declaring public holiday and shutting down Lagos because Buhari is commissioning a busstation. A bus station, not even an airport or a major road. What will happen if Buhari were to commission a power station? Would they close down Nigeria?.

When Donald Trump visits an American state, no public holiday is declared. In fact, he visits factories to show that Americans are working and employment is up. In our own case, we have no factories, yet even the small businesses are forced to close because of Buhari’s visit!

The crisis of development is the most serious problem facing Nigeria. This is because the continent has remained largely underdeveloped despite the presenceof huge mineral and human resources. Several decades after the end of colonialism, most parts of Nigeria is still fighting with problems such as high poverty rate, lack of basic infrastructural facilities in all sectors of the economy, unemployment, high mortality rate, political instability and insecurity of lives and property.

Nigeria has ever been faced with the problem of leadership; this has left the country crawling on her kneels in spiteof the abundant resources.

Nigeria has witnessed several transitions of governments with one regime leaving one problem or another that have dragged the country ever since independence; the military especially did more damage in terms of leadership than any even though the fourth republic is ongoing and we virtually don’t understand what is hidden in the bag for Nigeria. Good leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study,
