Nigeria’s First Olympic Gold Medalist, Chioma Ajunwa gets promoted to the rank of A/Commissioner Of Police

Nigeria’s First Olympic Gold Medalist, Chioma Ajunmwa has just been promoted to rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, by the Police Service commission,the event took place at the Police College in Ikeja .

She was first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

Chioma specialized in the long jump. After various setbacks in her career she achieved fame when she became the first athlete in Nigeria to win an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and till date remains Nigeria’s only individual Olympic gold medalist.

Ajunwa-Okpara, launched a foundation to discover new stars that will take the Nigerian nation to new heights.

Director General of Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara Foundation, Prince Henry Amike, said the promotion of Chioma, was to showcase her professionalism, both in the police and the service of the nation.

The events which was held in Abuja was reportedly snubbed by top government officials but the strong lady of sports has remained dogged and said she will take sports to a height nobody can imagine.
