The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has lost his first son, Jide Tinubu.
The Lagos State Chairman of the APC, Chief Henry Ajomale, confirmed the news to correspondents on the telephone.
“I can confirm to you that Asiwaju lost his oldest son Yesterday,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress APC said it received the sad news of the death of Jide Tinubu, the son of the former governor of Lagos State and the Party’s National Leader, Sen. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “with great shock and grief”.
Untill his dead, Jide was a law graduate of the University of Liverpool, England.
He obtained a Masters degree in Maritime Law from the University of London and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1999.
The late lawyer had served as Promoter of TSL Limited and also worked in the Legal Department of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited from January 2000 to September 2001.
He had brief stints with Cargo Maritime in Paris, France, a firm of shipbrokers that specialized in petroleum product tankers, and Ocean and Oil Services Ltd.
Member of the Tinubu family, who asked not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the matter, said, Jide suddenly collapsed and died from what was suspected to be a heart attack around 9 pm on Tuesday.
However, after the incidence, close family members rushed him down to hospital on Lagos Island where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” the source told journalists in Lagos
He added that the tragic news was kept secret because the father, Bola Tinubu, was in Abuja for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his party, the APC.
Chairman of APC in Lagos, Otunba Henry Ajomale confirmed Jide’s death in a short statement he (Ajomale) issued on Wednesday.
“It’s with regrets that I inform you of the demise of Mr. Jide Tinubu, the Son of Our dear and esteemed Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, VIPs across the nation, mainly members of the APC, have taken to their social media pages to express their condolences.
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, said via his verified Twitter handle, “I am left shell shocked by the news of the demise of Jide Tinubu. My thoughts and prayers are with our National leader @AsiwajuTinubu.”
“In this moment of grief, the Party offers its sincere condolence and deepest sympathy to His Excellency and other immediate family members over the painful loss. May the outpouring of sympathy and the comfort in knowing that the late Jide’s death is felt by many, help the family through this difficult time.We pray Almighty Allah (SWT) grant the late Jide eternal rest”.
“He was such a wonderful soul. Good Night, dear cousin,” said Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, who is currently representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The senator representing Lagos East at the National Assembly, Gbenga Ashafa, tweeted, “My heart & prayers are with our leader Asiwaju @AsiwajuTinubu and his family at this time of grief. May the soul of Mr. Jide Tinubu R.I.P.”
