South-East governors declared-We won’t abandon Nnamdi Kanu
The Federal High Court in Abuja, had pronounced the exercises of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)as “acts of terrorism” while South East Governors’ Forum Chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. David Umahi, has clarified why they won’t relinquish leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Umahi stated, having proscribed the activities of the group and its possible name as a terror group, Kanu and his group expected to rebrand before they would enter any discourse with them.
Talking on the improvement, Umahi revealed to Sun that they would keep on appealing to the instigators on the need to work for a one and united Nigeria.
He stated, “Our circumstance is not quite the same as Boko Haram situation. In any case, in the event that anyone trusts that we will surrender those young men, it is not valid.
“We will in any case be speaking to them to return to their leaders, let us take a seat and talk about. Kanu some way or another brought issues to light on this restructuring issue. We should offer it to him.
“We are not going to discard him; we will in any case discover a way; we will speak to the federal government for absolution. The word, IPOB, is not in agreement with me because when you say the Indigenous People of Biafra, it has its own connotation. When you say indigenous, if you go to America you talk about the indigenous people of America and that is the Red Indies that founded America.
“There is no indigenous in this sense. It could be Igbo Youth Movement or affiliation et cetera. So having banished that and their exercises, obviously the government says it’sit’s a terror group; we cannot dialogue with them under that name again. They’re our brothers and sisters and it’s a question of getting them to a better level of understanding and partnership.”
Asked what will transpire that will wear Biafra’s symbol or convey its banner since the group has been banished, Umahi included the choice ought to be left for the president to make.
“All things considered, there are two issues here. One is that we have spoke to Mr President to pull back the soldiers in the South- East region at any rate for the present for temper to cool. I am not the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces; it’s Mr President who is. It is an interest that we have made to him. It is his constitutional powers and rights.
“Thus, I can’t state for sure that Operation Python Dance won’t begin in Ebonyi State. I don’t have such powers. In any case, if Mr President sees it that as he would like to think that he needs to notice to our allure, that is great. However, particularly in Ebonyi State, we are engaging that everyone ought to be well behaved. There’s no country inside a country. Regardless of the possibility that you need Biafra, you need to get it first; turn into a country before you begin setting up your flag, owning your own secret service and so on and so forth.” he added”.
