Manchester United make their return to the Champions League on Tuesday night after two-year absence beating FC Basel 3-0 at Old Trafford.
The first-half substitute for the Frenchman,Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring, goal with a heade after Ashley Young’s brilliant shimmy and pinpoint cross found the midfielder on the edge of the six-yard box.
Man United’s second goal came through Romelu Lukaku, one of United’s best players on Tuesday night, to nod home.
There was yet another milestone for Marcus Rashford who came on as a substitute and added another chapter to his remarkable record of scoring on his various debuts. This time it was a goal in the 19-year-old’s first Champions League game just as he scored in his first appearances in the Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup and his international debuts at senior and Under-21s level.
Paul Pogba left Old Trafford on crutches after injury blighted his first start as Manchester United captain in the Champions League.
Manchester United Boss Mourinho will have been delighted that Pogba’s replacement, Fellaini, opened the scoring but United will be desperately hoping Pogba is not set for an extended period on the sidelines. The Frenchman has been a revelation since Nemanja Matic’s arrival and is not easily replaced.
