Barbara Bush, the matriarchal figure of a political dynasty that included two presidents – her husband George HW Bush and son George W Bush, was laid to rest at her husband’s presidential library in Texas.
Barbara died Tuesday at the age of 92 at her home in Houston. She had been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure, and decided against seeking additional medical help earlier this week after a series of hospitalizations.
Former President George H.W. Bush,her husband, entered the church with his son, former President George W. Bush, who wheeled him in as members of the family sat down. Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were also in attendance at the funeral.
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were in attendance, along with four former first ladies. Former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton attended the service and were joined by current First Lady Melania Trump.
According to Family spokesman Jim McGrath said the ceremony was ‘a very brief but poignant and beautiful ending to a very moving and incredible day’.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush joked that his mother called her style of mothering him and his siblings “a benevolent dictatorship — but honestly, it wasn’t always benevolent.” He emphasized how she believed in the power of laughter and that joy should be shared.
Presidential historian Jon Meacham, who wrote a 2015 biography on the former president said, the longest marriage of any other presidential couple. One of just two first ladies to have a child elected president, Barbara Bush was widely admired for her plainspoken style and was known as the “Enforcer” in her family, the glue who kept the high-powered clan together.
Trump tweeted that he was headed to Mar-a-Lago to watch a feed of the funeral, and also tweeted a photo of Bush’s portrait that hangs in the White House.
The President’s absence from Bush’s funeral is not uncommon for a sitting president. President Obama did not attend Nancy Reagan’s funeral in 2016 or Betty Ford’s funeral in 2011. President George W. Bush did not attend Lady Bird Johnson’s funeral in 2007.
Bush is being laid to rest at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas, buried next to her daughter, Robin, who died as a child from leukemia.
